Coast Guard Region 4 disseminates legal documents on combating IUU fishing
PANO - On July 30, at Bai Thom commune, Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang province, the Coast Guard Region 4 Command, in collaboration with the Kien Giang provincial Party Committee's Commission for Information and Education, organized an event to disseminate legal documents on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and conduct social welfare activities in the area.

Recently, to contribute to the efforts of various levels, sectors, and the entire political system in preventing and completely ending IUU fishing activities, especially ahead of the 5th inspection by the European Commission (E.C.), the Coast Guard Region 4 Command has continuously focused on and intensified the dissemination of laws to raise awareness among vessel owners, fishermen, port managers, business owners, and seafood purchasing vessels of the Party's guidelines, and the State's policies and laws related to sea and islands.

In Bai Thom commune, Phu Quoc city, staff from the Coast Guard Region 4 Command informed the participants about the basic contents of the Vietnam Fisheries Law 2017, the Law on Vietnam Coast Guard 2018, and legal regulations on preventing and combating IUU fishing.
On this occasion, the delegation from the Coast Guard Region 4 Command also presented gifts to disadvantaged families, gave out national flags, distributed leaflets to fishermen, and organized a signing event for vessel owners and captains to sign commitments not to violate IUU regulations.

From July 23 to 26, 2024, the Coast Guard Region 4 Command conducted dissemination activities in six areas of Kien Giang province, reaching more than 700 people, focusing on vessel owners, captains, and fishermen engaged in fishing.
