At the event, delegates discussed and drew experience in coordinating in managing fishery sector-related activities. The representatives of the Coast Guard Region 2 Command and localities agreed to maintain the coordination, regularly exchange information, and work together to deal with issues related to foreign fishermen’s encroachments on Vietnam’s sea.

Over the past time, Coast Guard Region 2 has proactively cooperated with provinces and cities in combating violations and piracy activities at sea. The unit has sent its troops to conduct patrols, received and handled violation cases, and verified information of fishing ships.  

Through “Coast guards stand by fishermen” program, the Coast Guard Region 2 and localities have fostered dissemination to raise fishermen’s awareness of law, given timely support to fishermen having troubles at sea, effectively responded to natural disasters, conducted search and rescue, and protected sea environment. 

Having discussed, delegates emphasized that the signing of the coordination mechanisms in managing fishery sector-related activities between Coast Guard Region 2 and localities is significant. They said that the coordination agreements will contribute to ending illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and ensuring stability for socio-economic development and firmly safeguarding national sovereignty over sea and islands.

At the event, the Coast Guard Region 2 Command and representatives of the provincial and municipal People’s Committees highly agreed with contents of coordination mechanisms and expressed the determination to effectively carry out the reached documents.
