Border troops save distressed fishermen
PANO – Troops of the Quang Tri provincial Border Guard on June 19 saved ten crew-members on board distressed Thang Loi 18 transport ship, announced the Office of the National Committee for Search and Rescue.
Distressed ship was towed ashore
Earlier, the ship of the Trading and Maritime Transport Joint-stock Company hit a floating hard object 17 nautical miles from Con Co Island while transporting 1,868 tons of clinker from Hai Duong to Can Tho province. Having discovered a huge leak that might cause the ship to sink, the ship’s captain radioed for help.
Receiving the news, the provincial Border Guard sent its troops on board ship BP 30-12-01 to the scene to work with 12 troops on board ship BP 48-06-02 to conduct the rescue mission.
After two hours, the rescue teams successfully saved ten fishermen and guided the distressed ship to anchor safely at Con Co Island.
