Therefore, the national sovereignty over border areas is always ensured while close solidarity between peoples along the borderline has been tightened significantly.

Building a firm posture of people’s heart

Reporters of the People’s Army Newspaper (PAN) visited Po Hen Border Post as the troops had just moved to a new station. According to its Political Commissar Major Tran Dai Duong, Po Hen Border Post is tasked with managing and protecting more than 12km of the shared borderline with China and stationed in Hai Son commune, Mong Cai city. “Over the past time, the unit has actively taken measures to ensure social order and security in the areas where we are stationed, while helping locals to develop production and build a new-style rural area. These activities have contributed to firmly protecting a firm posture of people’s heart, thereby encouraging them to safeguard the national sovereignty and border security,” he emphasized.

On the occasion, the PAN’s reporters had a meeting with Ly A Chang, Head of Luc Chan village, Hai Son commune. Mr. Chang held that border troops regularly grasped the situation so as to make recommendations to the local authorities in building the political system and developing culture and socio-economy. Meanwhile, the border guards also studied the terrain, climate and soil conditions in the area to assist local people in economic development.

According to Mr. Chang, as the border troops disseminate information and encourage locals to join hands to protect the national borderline and landmarks, their living standards have improved and the social order and security in the area have been maintained.

Chairwoman of the Hai Son commune Women’s Union Nguyen Thi Thuy Duong noted that since the dissemination work was boosted in the area by the union and the border post, most of the people and women have no longer done illegal border crossings.

Joining hands to safeguard national border sovereignty

Troops of Po Hen Border Post regularly visit communes and villages along the shared borderline to help local residents promote production, develop economy and disseminate information to mobilize them to adhere to the State’s laws and protect the national borderline and landmarks. So far, the entire system of borderline and landmarks in the area where the unit is stationed has been voluntarily protected by hundreds of households and individuals.

In 2022, local people, together with Po Hen Border Post, conducted patrols and cleaned border patrol roads. The unit, local authorities and relevant forces detected and effectively combated all kinds of crimes in the area. Meanwhile, local people also joined hands with the border guards to firmly protect the national border sovereignty.

Besides, over the past time, the border post has also well implemented border defense external work, while disseminating information to raise the awareness of the people along the shared borderline of respecting the independence and sovereignty of each side, thereby protecting the borderline and landmarks, ensuring friendship and solidarity, contributing to socio-economic and cultural development of each side.

“Via practical activities, the image of border soldiers has been promoted among locals. In turn, they support the troops to accomplish their political missions, contributing to ensuring social order and security, and firmly protecting the national border sovereignty,” underscored Major Tran Dai Duong.

The locals’ living standards have improved remarkably, thanks to the support of the border troops. Their activities have contributed to promoting the image of Uncle Ho’s soldiers among ethnic minority groups in border areas.
