In particular, the fishermen were provided with information related to sea border security, prevention of illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, National Border Law, Vietnam Sea Law 2012 and the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982.

In addition, the fishermen also learnt about the government’s Decree No.89/2015/ND-CP on adjusting and supplementing some articles to the Decree No.67/2014/ND-CP on aquatic product development policies, Decree No.169/2013/ND-CP on regulations on administrative fine in management and protection of national border, and Border Guard Law. They were also reminded of fishing offshore and relevant legal contents.

During the information dissemination, local fishermen were presented with 250 national flags as well.

Border Flotilla 18 is continuing to encourage fishermen to stay united, and keep safety while operating at sea, trawlers’ owners to commit themselves to not violating foreign waters, and bring along papers and sea chart to avoid violations of IUU, domestic and foreign laws.

This information dissemination drive aimed to raise local fishermen’s awareness and spirit of law observance, contributing to building strong all people’s border posture.
