The activities showed deep gratitude towards President Ho Chi Minh, General Vo Nguyen Giap, fallen soldiers, writers and reporters who had bravely fought and sacrificed themselves for the Fatherland's independence, freedom and unification, and people's happiness.

* The Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and the Ho Chi Minh City chapter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, held a ceremony to posthumously conferred the title “Vietnamese Heroic Mother” to 16 mothers. Speaking at the event, a representative of the HCM City Party Committee expressed his deep gratitude for the sacrifice of Vietnamese heroic mothers who had their family members laying down their lives for the Fatherland's independence; and asked relevant units to well implement the policies for the alive Vietnamese heroic mothers, war invalids, sick soldiers, and national contributors' families. HCM City has 5,380 Vietnamese heroic mothers, of whom 226 are still alive.

* Military Region 7 Command held many meaningful activities in Binh Hoa Nam commune, Duc Hue district, Long An province. These activities included paying tribute to heroic martyrs; presenting gifts to two Vietnamese heroic mothers, policy beneficiary households, and needy children. In addition, a delegation of doctors and medical specialists from the Eastern Military-Civilian Hospital also provided free health check-ups and medicines for nearly 300 local people.

* The Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and the Dong Nai provincial chapter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, held a get-together for more than 1,000 retired veteran revolutionaries and senior officers in the province. The delegates recalled the heroic traditions of the nation and victories of the military in the glorious resistance wars, and listened to the economic and political situation and some prominent events of the country and the world in 2018. Earlier, leaders of Dong Nai province and the delegates lighted incense at the provincial Martyrs' Cemetery.

* Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh on December 21 visited and had a working session with the Military Hospital 175 under the Ministry of National Defense.

At the working session, leaders of the hospital briefed the Vice President on its task performance and achievements on healthcare services for troops and people, as well as the hospital’s engagement in providing medical services on islands, and its international cooperation. The hospital, in association with Corporation 319 under the Ministry of National Defense, well implemented the project of Trauma and Orthopedics Hospital 175.

Speaking at the event, Vice President Thinh highly praised the leaders, doctors, and the whole medical staff of the Military Hospital 175 for their great achievements over the past years, including the hospital’s provision of healthcare services for Truong Sa island district (Khanh Hoa province) and sea and islands in the southern region. She emphasized its excellent preparation for the deployment of the level-2 field hospital No.1 to South Sudan. She also congratulated the hospital's leaders, doctors, and staff on the occasion of the 74th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army and the 29th Whole-People’s Defense Festive Day (December 22), saying that the hospital would continue to uphold the tradition of the Vietnam People's Army in order to overcome difficulties and soon build the hospital into a special medical facility of the army in the southern region.

* Marking the 74th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army and the 5th death anniversary of General Vo Nguyen Giap, the Research Center for Preservation and Promotion of National Culture, in collaboration with the Vietnam Association of History Science, the Vietnam Military History Museum, held a national-level workshop on General Vo Nguyen Giap.

The organizing panel received more than 60 reports from generals, senior officers, and writers across the country, highlighting and honoring great contributions and influences of General Vo Nguyen Giap. Meanwhile, delegates at the meeting focused on discussing General Vo Nguyen Giap’s spirit of patriotism, humanism, and military and defense thoughts. At the workshop, the Vietnam Military History Museum also exhibited some documents and artefacts related to the life and career of General Vo Nguyen Giap.
