Vietnam border guards tighten border control against Covid-19
PANO – Vietnam Border Guard Command held a meeting on preventing and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic along the borderlines on July 26. Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Minister of National Defense, chaired the event.
According to a report from the Border Guard’s Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, a large number of troops were mobilized to control border gates. Over the last two months, 257,000 people entered Vietnam, of whom 4,000 people were arrested for illegal entry. Illegal entry must be restricted to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
In response to the situation, the Border Guard Command promptly established eight task forces to oversee disease prevention and control, and control trails in border areas such as Lang Son, Lai Chau and so on.
At the event, Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien ordered units, especially disease prevention and control shifts, to strictly follow discipline and maintain combat readiness posture. The border control must be tightened and patrols must be well organized. He also urged relevant personnel to upgrade facilities at border posts in key areas.
Meanwhile, relevant units have been ordered to improve information dissemination to those living along the border to update them on the COVID-19 prevention and control situation and to raise their awareness of illegal entries and exits.
