PANO - A solemn ceremony to celebrate 40 years of the victory of Dak To-Tan Canh (April 24th) was held in Dak To District, Kon Tum Province on April 24th.
40 years ago, on early April 24th, 1972, Vietnamese artillery troops attacked targets in Base E42, exploding the ammunition depot and fuel dump of the enemy.
The enemy units stationed in the east of Base E42 were quickly eliminated. Nine T54 tanks under Armoured Company 7 concealed in lower Po Ko went on a sortie ahead to Base E42.
At 11am on April 24th, Vietnamese troops took command of the Base. The Liberation Flag handed over by Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee to Regiment 66 flew on the top of Base E42.
The victory of Dak To-Tan Canh was an epic of the spirit of solidarity and coordinated operations among the regular troops, local army, the Central Highlands’ troops and people. That victory raised the curtain for the campaign to completely liberate South Vietnam.
40 years have elapsed. Dak To District has seen the economic growth rate of more than 16 percent in 2011, 100 percent of its villages have access to electricity from the national grid and the number of poor households stayed at 18.3 percent in 2011.
The State has decided to confer the Independence Order, third class on the Party Committee, local authorities and people of Dak To District in recognition of their considerable achievements over the past 4 decades.
