Veterans actively join hands in building new-styled rural areas
PANO - The Vietnam War Veterans' Association (VWVA) on January 7 in Hanoi held a conference to summarize the outcomes of task implementation in 2019 and map out major missions for 2020 under the chair of its president Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Duoc.
At the conference, delegates agreed that in 2019, the association achieved many practical results in all aspects, with the focus on organizing activities to celebrate the National Patriotic Emulation Congress in the 2014-2019 period and its 30th founding anniversary.
Over the past time, the VWVA’s chapters at all levels effectively helped their members reduce poverty and improve living standards, and encouraged them to develop the local socio-economy.
The veterans of the association also donated more than 1.58 million sq.m of land, over VND 453 billion in cash, and more than 630,000 working days to contribute to the national target program of new-style rural area building.
Regarding new tasks for 2020, General Duoc emphasized that the association should continue to maintain the movement to reduce poverty and develop the economy among its members; effectively exploit and use capital resources; and fulfill tasks as the Chair of the Confederation of Veterans in South East Asia (VECONAC) in the 20th tenure.
