Present at the ceremony were Lieutenant General Ngo Minh Tien, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, and Vuong Bich Thang, Director of the General Department of Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

This year’s event, from November 21 to 29, summons nearly 2,600 athletes from military and quasi-military forces.

They will compete for sets of medals for both men and women in various events such as volleyball, tennis, badminton, table tennis, four combined military sports event, military swimming, strong soldiers, hurdles, run, grenade throwing, and martial arts.

In his opening speech, General Tien requested the participants to strictly follow the competition’s regulations and heighten their sense of solidarity and fair play to make the event a success.

The competition aims to assess the quality of physical training and sport movements at military units, thus contributing to improving combat readiness and the fitness of troops as well as meeting their task requirements in the current context.

In addition, the festival is seen as an opportunity for the participating units to find and select outstanding faces to participate in upcoming military sports festivals in 2020 when Vietnam takes ASEAN Chairmanship.
