At the ceremony

During the Road 9 - Khe Sanh Campaign in 1967, two tank companies moved over 1,000km to reach the Southern theater. As planned, the tank units attacked the enemy at Ta May Base in Quang Tri province on Jan. 23, 1968. The Tank-Armored Command then decided to join the infantry force to attack Lang Vay Base. As of Feb. 7, 1968, the combined force conquered the base, captured 600 enemy troops, and collected all weapons and equipment of the enemy.

Addressing the ceremony, Major General Nguyen Khac Nam, Commander of the Tank-Armored Corps, stressed the significance of the Ta May - Lang Vay victory, which is marked as the first victory of the Vietnam’s tank-armored force.

In recognition of their feats of arms, the force was honored with the “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces” title, the first-class Independence Order, the Ho Chi Minh Order and other noble awards from the State and Party.
