PANO - The People's Army Newspaper on December 9th held a symposium themed "Deserving to be Uncle Ho's soldiers: 70 years of development." More than 20 reports were sent to the workshop, highlighting the qualities and beauty of Uncle Ho's soldiers in wartime and the national construction and defence in peacetime.

The workshop highlighting the qualities and beauty of Uncle Ho's soldiers

Opening the seminar, Major General Prof. Bui Phan Ky, aged 88, strongly expressed his opinion that not all armies in the world are the nation-founding ones as the Vietnam People's Army and “Uncle Ho’s soldiers” is the title granted by the people to show the humane and good deeds of the revolutionary soldiers. Therefore, the title Uncle Ho's soldiers will forever live in the heart of Vietnamese people.

Former journalist Colonel Pham Phu Bang, a reporter of the People’s Army Newspaper in Dien Bien Phu theatre (1953-1954), recounted the true stories he witnessed that show great humanity of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the war. He insisted that, in face of the enemy, Uncle Ho’s soldiers are always heroic and indomitable and only wish to defeat the enemy’s will of invasion, not to chase them to death when they’ve already surrendered. It is the humanity taking deep root from the fine tradition of the ancestors, a moral value rarely seen in other armies.

In agreement with other speakers, Major General Pham Van Huan, Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper, affirmed that the reports full of scientific values were carefully prepared. The general added the title “Uncle Ho's soldiers” is given by the people with noble meaning and deep humanity. To maintain and promote the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the new period, the staff and soldiers of the whole army should fully understand the three core issues of a revolutionary army, namely absolute loyalty to the Communist Party of Vietnam, voluntary obedience of Uncle Ho's teachings, and faithfulness to the people.

Uncle Ho's soldiers in poetry

The image of Uncle Ho's soldiers has been vividly portrayed in numerous literary works, especially in the works of famous poets like To Huu, Vu Cao, Hoang Nhuan Cam.

The works have depicted an image of the simple, but heroic, Uncle Ho's soldiers, standing firm and brave in face of difficulties and challenges, ready to receive and successfully fulfill all assigned tasks.
