Accordingly, led by Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem, the delegation inspected the prevention and combat of drug crime, human trafficking, smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeits of these units before, during, and after the Lunar New Year Festival 2020, as well as their 2020 working plans.

The inspected units included the Border Guard Commands in the provinces of Long An, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, An Giang, Ho Chi Minh city, and some crime prevention forces from the Vietnam Coast Guard.

General Chiem speaks at the meeting

Having been briefed on the units’ task performance, General Chiem applauded their achievements in preventing and fighting crimes at sea and in land border areas, especially illegal firecrackers trafficking and illegal sand trade, and illegal oil trade at sea.

He also highlighted that the situations of crime, social order and safety in localities are increasingly complicated so they should raise the efficiency of their performances. Furthermore, these units were asked to implement the resolutions of the Party, the National Assembly, and the Government in fighting crimes, illegal drug trafficking, human trafficking, smuggling and trade fraud. They should see these tasks as their important political, regular and constant missions.

He also urged the units to promote information dissemination on the prevention of crime, smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit, and foster international cooperation in the fields.

According to him, criminals would take advantage of the Covid-19 epidemic to enhance their criminal activities. Therefore, the units should be on high alert to ensure pulic order, security and safety in the localities, he concluded.

During the event

Earlier, the delegation paid a working visit to the Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial Border Guard Command, the Naval Region 3 Command, and Anti-drug Squad No.3 under the Naval Command.

* On the same day, in Da Nang city, the delegation inspected implementations to combat illegal drug trafficking, human trafficking, smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeiting in the Central region.

During the meetings, the Border Guard Commands of Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Tri, Kon Tum, and Gia Lai, Da Nang city, Task-force Squad No.2 of the Vietnam Border Guard Command’s Division of Drug and Crime Prevention, and the Naval Region 2 Command, reported General Chiem and the delegation on their task performances over the past time.

Addressing the meeting, General Chiem highly valued their records, while asking them to learn from experience and overcome existing shortcomings, closely work with relevant forces in the areas to effectively prevent crimes.
