Soc Trang border guard forces patrol to combat IUU fishing
PANO - On April 10, troops of the Border Squadron No.2 and Trung Binh Border Post of the Soc Trang provincial Border Guard Command, in coordination with the Fisheries Sub-Department of the Soc Trang provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, carried out patrols in their designated maritime areas as part of the plan to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
During the mission, the units checked fishing vessels in Tran De district waters. In the process, the forces distributed documents and flyers to educate boat owners and fishermen about legal regulations related to the management, exploitation, and protection of fisheries resources, the IUU fishing prevention, and the European Commission's "yellow card" impacts on seafood imports and exports.

In addition, the patrol forces urged fishermen to adhere to safe fishing practices, advising boat owners to commit to not encroaching upon foreign waters for fishing activities, have adequate legal papers and nautical charts before setting sail, and abide by Vietnamese laws as well as those of other countries.

This activity also aimed to raise fishermen's awareness of IUU fishing prevention, promoting sustainable development in the fisheries sector. It helps fishermen understand Vietnam's maritime border, comply with laws when operating at sea, refrain from unauthorized fishing in foreign waters, and collectively work towards the removal of the European Commission's "yellow card" on Vietnamese seafood.
