MND approves compilation results of Military Art Dictionary
PANO - On November 4, General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff, Deputy Defense Minister and Head of the Steering Committee for the Compilation of the Vietnam Military Dictionary and Military Encyclopedia, chaired a conference to review and approve the compilation results of volume 5 entitled Military Art of the Vietnam Military Encyclopedia.
The Vietnam Military Encyclopedia consists of six volumes, namely Military History; Military Geography; Military Technology and Logistics; Military Politics and Armed Forces Organization; Military Art; and General Index. To date, three volumes have been published. The system of military dictionaries now includes over 40 works, contributing significantly to training and scientific research within the Ministry of National Defense (MND).

Volume 5 entitled Military Art covers three areas of military art, military politics, and military figures, comprising 889 entries with 746 ones on military art, 136 on military politics, and seven on military figures.
The Standing Agency (now the Vietnam Institute for Defense Strategy and History) has strictly followed the compilation process. Each stage involved evaluation councils to assess and approve results, with continuous updates and refinements to ensure accuracy and comprehensiveness.

Concluding the meeting, Gen. Cuong requested the Standing Agency to incorporate opinions, review the edited content, and update entries reflecting practical developments, especially in military science, new operational art, the two-tier local administration model, and the latest organizational structures of military units. He emphasized consistency in font size and formatting across all six volumes and called for digitization to facilitate access and reference.
Gen. Cuong also directed relevant agencies to complete and publish the Military Art volume by 2026 and accelerate work on volumes 4 and 6 as scheduled.
