* In Thanh Hoa province, the floods left 12 people dead and nine missing. It also completely destroyed 47 houses, severely ruined 50 houses and partly damaged 187 others. Forces stationed in the province are now closely coordinating to search for the missing, fixing damaged property and damaged traffic roads, and maintaining communications with isolated areas.

* On August 6, Military Region 4 sent 1,729 troops to the flood-hit districts of Quan Son and Muong Lat of Thanh Hoa province to help locals mitigate natural disaster consequences. Troops of Engineer Brigade 414 and other forces with vehicles and made a temporary bridge to facilitate transport of food, water and other necessary items to flood-hit people. The brigade and other units stationed in the localities also cleared about 11,000m3 of mud on Roads 217, 15A, 15C and others. Troops of the provincial Military Command of Thanh Hoa have helped 220 evacuated households return to their houses. Military Region 2 also directed the provincial Military Command of Son La to send 150 troops to the flood-hit localities for support.
* On learning the information about the natural disaster destruction in Thanh Hoa province, the Red Cross Society of Vietnam has support people in flood-hit localities with VND 200 million.
* From August 2 – 5, heavy rains in combination with cyclones and high tidal waves made one automobile service and maintenance facility and two houses collapse, uproofed 10 houses, and inundated 3,874 houses. More than 10 ha of crops, 1,675 fowls, 16.7 tons of fish and 10 tons of salt were also destroyed. Apart from that, 33.6km of road are now submerged in flood water. The People’s Committee of Phu Quoc district (Kien Giang province) has mobilized 640 people and members of the armed forces with a lot of vehicles and equipment to evacuate 767 locals to safe places.
* A mission of the Standing Officer of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, the People’s Committee of Ca Mau province, and the Vietnam Institute of Water Resources inspected the fixing of the broken sea dyke in the western area of the province. By August 6, 267m out of 356m of broken sea dyke has been repaired.
* To ensure food and hygiene for people in flooded localities, the Department of Food Administration under the Ministry of Health issued a dispatch requiring the departments of health in 14 provinces affected by storm Wipha to strictly implement food safety regulations, especially for food and water donated by organizations and individuals. The local authorities are also to guide people to use clean and safe water and food and prevent them from using stale or out-of-date food.
