At the meeting, Lt. Gen. Duong Dinh Thong, who will retire according to the Prime Minister’s decision, handed over responsibilities of Secretary of the Party Committee of MR1 to MR1 Commander Lt. Gen. Nguyen Hong Thai; and those of MR1’s Political Commissar to Maj. Gen. La Cong Phuong, MR1’s Deputy Political Commissar.

Also at the event, delegates heard a report on the region’s Party and political work implementation in the first half of this year and major tasks in the second half and voiced their agreement on the responsibility handover contents.

After the handover ceremony, Gen. Thai and Gen. Phuong managed all aspects of the Party and political work of the armed forces of MR1.

On behalf of the Standing Board of the CMC, leaders of the Ministry of National Defense and GDP, Gen. Quyet highly praised Gen. Thong’s great contribution and dedication to the military in general and MR1 in particular. He congratulated Gen. Thong on excellent fulfilment of tasks assigned by the Party, State and military over the past 42 years. He hoped that the general would contribute more to the military and MR1 building and local development.

Regarding MR1’s major tasks in the remainder of the year, Gen. Quyet asked the military region’s Party Committee and Chain-of-Command to continue to lead and direct MR1’s affiliated agencies and units to keep a close watch on situational developments and strictly maintain combat readiness duties to avoid being put in a passive position in any circumstances as well as effectively carry out resolutions of higher levels on Party and military building.

Gen. Quyet emphasized that the Party Committee and Command of MR1 and agencies and units in the region should boost solidarity, close ties with local party committee, authorities and people in garrison areas to develop socio-economy, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty.

Noting that MR1 is a key area where many activities in celebration of the 80th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (December 22, 1944 - 2024) will be held, Gen. Quyet urged MR1’s agencies and units to well organize mobilization and gratitude activities for policy beneficiaries and national contributors, among others.
