At the meeting, General Giang requested the Military Medical University and the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center to send their personnel and vehicles to assist Bac Giang province in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also asked the Military Institute of Preventive Medicine under the General Department of Military Medicine to dispatch its personnel to reinforce Bac Ninh province’s SARS-CoV-2 prevention and control forces.

Giang also asked Central Military Hospital 108 to build plans to classify patients to prevent the pandemic from affecting its key political activities and send its forces to help COVID-19-hit localities to test samples. He urged the General Department of Logistics to work with Military Region 1 to ensure accommodations for reinforced forces.

Since the COVID-19 situation continues to be complicated, General Giang assigned relevant agencies to invest in essential vehicles and equipment to raise the capabilities of COVID-19 and infectious diseases testing.

Agencies and units in the military should take measures to prevent SARS-CoV-2 from entering the military and foster information dissemination to raise troops’ and defense workers’ awareness of and responsibility for COVID-19 prevention and control.

Regarding prevention of illegal border exit and entry activities, the Defense Minister requested the Border Guard Command to work with public security and local forces to mobilize local people to report any illegal exit and entry cases to relevant forces and conduct camera installations to help border guard forces in managing border areas. 

General Giang emphasized that this is an opportunity for troops, military medical workers, and border guard troops to promote their vanguard spirit in helping local people in combating the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing to brightening the image of Uncle Ho’s soldiers in the current period.

According to reports delivered at the meeting, over the past time agencies and units in the whole military have strictly carried out higher levels’ directives on COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control.

Recently, the Ministry of National Defense sent missions to inspect the observance of combat readiness and COVID-19 prevention and control regulations at units and localities in border areas and southwestern waters. As of May 16, tens of thousands of troops have been vaccinated, and the military has provided quarantine areas for around 16,000 citizens.

Reports also revealed that the whole military has set up more than 1,800 checkpoints with 12,000 personnel and prepared field hospitals to receive COVID-19 cases.

Under the instruction of the Defense Minister, the Military Medical University sent its forces to assist Bac Giang province in combating the COVID-19 pandemic on the evening of May 16.
