Hundreds of troops mobilized to help people in flood-hit areas
PANO – Due to the impacts of the seventh storm (Nangka) and tropical depression, heavy rains continued on October 17 in Quang Tri province.
Torrential rains have submerged Cam Lo, Dakrong, Huong Hoa, Gio Linh, Trieu Phong, and Hai Lang districts, Dong Ha city, and Quang Tri town, and many localities have been isolated.
In response to the situation, under the instruction of the Quang Tri provincial Military Command, the Military Commands of these districts, city, and town and Infantry Regiment 842 cooperated with local leadership and forces to mobilize hundreds of troops and militiamen to evacuate local people and property to safer places and conduct search and rescue for flood victims.
It is forecast that water levels will keep rising in the next few days due to heavy rains and may cause landslides in Huong Hoa, Dakrong, and Cam Lo districts and flood lower areas in Gio Linh, Trieu Phong, and Hai Lang district, Dong Ha city, and Quang Tri town.
The provincial Military Command will continue instructing its agencies and units to closely follow the development of the weather and ready forces and vehicles for search and rescue missions.
