Hanoi reviews search and rescue work in 2016
PANO – The Hanoi municipal People’s Committee held a conference on March 30 to review the city's search and rescue mission accomplishment in 2016 and kick off search and rescue tasks and coordination of forces for the missions in 2017.
Present at the conference were Nguyen Van Suu, Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi municipal People's Committee and Head of the city's Steering Board for Search and Rescue; Major General Bui Trong Quynh, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Hanoi Capital Command.
In 2016, the board received and processed 7,000 pieces of fire and rescue information; mobilized more than 3,500 participating fire engines and firefighting specialized vehicles; and directly handled more than 400 blazes and hundreds of unexpected incidents, saving 157 people.
The Hanoi Capital Command, the city’s standing organ responsible for search and rescue missions, has coordinated with other relevant departments and agencies to mobilize over 29,000 participating people to relieve the consequences of fires, natural disasters and other accidents.
In 2017, the city continues to disseminate information to raise public awareness of fire and explosion prevention, natural disasters and accidents; take serious actions against violations of river dykes and fire and explosion prevention regulations; organize training drives and drills for search and rescue forces, especially for specialized forces, to minimize unexpected incidents.
On the occasion, the People’s Committee and the command honored 14 outstanding groups in search and rescue work in 2016.
