The gift-presentation, taking place at the hall of Ngu Thuy Border Post, was in the framework of the seminar entitled “Military Region 4 - Resilient frontline, Strong rear” to be held on the next day.

In a short conversation with the heroic servicewomen of Ngu Thuy in front of the monument dedicated to them, Major General Doan Xuan Bo, Secretary of the Party Committee and Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, inquired after them and expressed his delight seeing all of them in good health conditions and joy. He expressed deep gratitude to them who dedicated their youth to the protection of independence and freedom of the nation.

At the gift-presentation ceremony, Gen. Bo said other delegates and he were moved when visiting Ngu Thuy and meeting with legendary Ngu Thuy artillery women. He spoke highly of their feats-of-arms in the past despite numerous challenges and sacrifices.

Ngu Thuy Female Artillery Company was founded on November 20, 1967 with the first 37 members (later 91), aged 16-22 and equipped with four 85mm guns. After two months of training, the company started the combat against foreign invaders. From 1968 to 1972, it engaged in various fierce battles. Brave artillery women successfully fired at U.S. warships five times. With that feat-of-arms, the company was awarded many orders and certificates of merit. Many of its personnel were admitted to the Party right on artillery platform. On August 25, 1970, the company was honored with the title of “Hero of the People's Armed Forces” by the State. The artillery women’s feat-of-arms served as the inspiration for the construction of the present Ngu Thuy artillery women monument right on the old battlefield.

According to the organizers, the gifts, worth VND 2 million each, were small in comparison to their great sacrifices and losses but significant since it was today generation’s gratitude to the older one.

The event was expected to spread the spirit of gratitude, care, and sharing from the whole society towards these heroines  so that they can have a better life, worthy of their dedications and sacrifices.
