General Political Department visits storm-stricken provinces

PANO - Senior Lieutenant General Le Van Dung, General Director of the Political General Department under the Vietnam People’s Army, from December 22 to 25 paid a working visit to Ben Tre and Tien Giang provinces, which were hit by Typhoon Durian.
The Party Committees and the Military Commands of the two provinces briefed the General Director on the typhoon’s activities and the task of getting over its aftermath. Typhoon Durian inflicted serious damage on these provinces with an estimated loss of 3,630 billion VND. During that time, local governments and people in cooperation with Army forces under Military Zone 9 and Cuu Long corps took effective measures to cope with the storm as well as weathered its consequences.
The Defence Minister praised these Army units’ rescue and relief activities. He urged these forces to go on helping local people stabilise their lives.
During his visit, Senior Lieutenant General Le Van Dung presented gifts to poor families in several communes of Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces. He also encouraged soldiers of Cuu Long corps in their rebuilding of houses for storm victims in the areas.
