The mission, led by GDP Deputy Director Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia, included leaders of the Office of Central Steering Committee 35 and civilian agencies and military units, as well as civilian and military reporters.

Before leaving Cat Lai Port, the mission held an incense offering ceremony to commemorate heroic martyrs of the Numberless Fleet of Brigade 125, Naval Region 2. It also visited and presented gifts to troops and residents on Spratly Islands and DK1 platforms.

During the visit, the mission lighted incense at President Ho Chi Minh memorial site and monuments in commemoration of martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the waters of Gac Ma Island (Johnson Reef) and Phuc Tan (Prince of Wales) Bank, paid visits to the People’s Committee of Truong Sa district and other historical and cultural spots, inquired after officers and soldiers stationed on the islands and platforms, and presented gifts to the residents in Truong Sa townlet, and on Sinh Ton Island.

The mission also checked combat readiness capabilities, Party and political work of the units as well as material and spiritual lives of troops on the Spratly Islands and DK1 platforms.

Highly appreciating the outstanding achievements of the troops on the Spratly Islands, General Nghia asked the troops of the Spratlys to strengthen their political willpower, heighten their sense of responsibility for protecting sacred national sovereignty over the seas and islands.

He believed that troops and people on the islands would further promote the national heroic traditions, solidarity, resolve to overcome difficulties and uphold their sense of revolutionary vigilance to excellently accomplish their assigned missions. He noted that the leaders of the islands should attach importance to conducting political and ideological education for troops so that they can meet the task requirements.

The mission accomplished all agendas of the trip while ensuring absolute safety for people and equipment. During the field trip, the mission exactly evaluated the results of the task performance of the units, as well as outcomes of their political and Party work. Based on the results, the mission is expected to propose ideas to the Defense Ministry, the Party and State leaders in order to augment the quality of Party and political work of units stationed on islands as well as to improve material and spiritual lives of soldiers and residents on the Spartlys.
