Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong chairs GS’s politico-military conference
PANO - The General Staff (GS) held a politico-military conference on July 7 to review its task performance in the first six months of this year under the chair of its chief General Nguyen Tan Cuong, who is also Deputy Defense Minister.

In the first half of this year, the GS directed its affiliates to effectively accomplish military and defense missions, with several tasks completed with excellence and breakthrough results.
The entire military strictly maintained combat readiness regulations; closely coordinated with other forces to ensure political security and social order; pro-actively monitored situational developments and gave advice on major military and defense policies to higher-levels. It also streamlined forces, formed elite, compact and strong local military organizations. Other outcomes were seen in units’ renovation, improvement of training and exercise quality, defense and security education for different levels of people, and good engagement in celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the South Liberation and National Reunification Day, among others.
For the remainder of 2025, the GS will concentrate on providing weapons and supplies for mission implementation, giving timely assessment of situations, improving quality of training and tests, enhancing high-level emulation movements to mark big days of the GS and the nation, and promoting IT application, e-government, digital transformation.
In his speech, Gen. Cuong urged agencies and units to strive to make breakthroughs and show high determination to accomplish goals set at the GS’s Party Congress and planned for this year. He also requested them to realize higher-levels directions, and conclusions on military advisory task; complete combat documents and training materials; accelerate digital transformation; and especially make good preparation for the upcoming 19th Party Congress of the GS for the 2025-2030 tenure.

At the conference, the GS launched the emulation movement titled “Raise the red flag of August high - Compete for three bests,” and awarded collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in fulfilling their recent missions.
