Speaking at the event, Major General Nguyen Xuan Kien, Head of the Department of Military Medicine, briefed delegates on the latest development of the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam and the world.

He stressed that the risk of a new outbreak is considerable; therefore, the military medicine force should be updated with sample collecting and testing techniques in accordance with the increasing implementation of 5K regulations issued by the Ministry of Health.

An overview of the conference 

The officer noted that the preventive medicine experts in the military are limited, thus, the course is expected to provide professional knowledge for testing teams in each unit.  He affirmed that he hopes that the trainees will disseminate their acquired knowledge to medical staff at all levels to improve the effectiveness of COVID-19 prevention and control in the military. 

At the course, Senior Colonel Nguyen Chinh Phong, Head of the Office of Preventive Medicine under the Department of Military Medicine, briefed the delegates on SARS-CoV-2 testing strategies in the current context, including the antigen rapid test technique, the antibody rapid test technique, and other techniques for collecting SARS-CoV-2 testing samples.

Reportedly, the whole military has 459 testing teams and plans to increase the number to over 900 teams in the time to come.
