Defense Ministry hosts first video conference of Lunar New Year
PANO - Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) and Deputy Defense Minister on February 5 chaired the first whole-army video conference of the Lunar New Year.
The event saw the participation of Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Deputy Chief of the VPA’s General Staff; Lieutenant General Le Hien Van, Deputy Director of the VPA’s General Department of Politics; and representatives of agencies and units under the Defense Ministry and the General Staff, and other general departments.
Delegates at the conference were informed of the whole army units’ combat readiness postures and security and defense situations before and during the Lunar New Year festival (Tet). Particularly, they have been well implementing combat readiness posture and closely following developments of the situations in their designated airspaces, seas, and territorial areas in order to readily handle unexpected situations on time.

Besides, they offered gifts to local national contributors and poor households so as they could enjoy a happier festival.
Meanwhile, units effectively organize this Tet for troops in a safe, joyful, healthy and economical manner. During the Tet holiday, they strictly followed the military disciplines and and regulations on traffic safety. Units in charge of shooting fireworks on the Lunar New Year’s Eve (February 4) successfully and safely completed their tasks.
In his remarks, General Giang, on behalf of the Central Military Commission and Defense Ministry, extended Tet wishes to all troops in the whole army.
He hailed the achievements as well as pointed out several shortcomings of units in carrying out military-defense missions in 2018. He requested all defense agencies and military units should make more efforts in 2019 to fulfill all assigned tasks, contributing to firmly safeguarding national sovereignty.
Earlier the same day, General Giang led a mission of the VPA’s General Staff to light incense and and lay flowers at the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and extend Tet greetings to troops of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum High Command.
