Defense Minister visits first lung transplant patient in Vietnam
PANO – General Ngo Xuan Lich, member of the Politburo, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense, on March 5 visited, talked, and presented gifts to the 7-year-old patient, Ly Chuong Binh, who had been successfully lung-transplanted by doctors from Military Hospital 103.

General Lich praised achievements of the doctors of Military Hospital 103 under Military Medical Academy over the past time, especially in liver, heart, kidney and pancreas transplantation. The defense minister stressed that the success of the first-ever lung transplant operation on the Dao ethnic minority patient from Ha Giang province marked an important milestone in Vietnam’s organ transplantation sector and affirmed military doctors’ significant development in healthcare in general and in organ transplant in particular.
The Defense Minister asked the academy and military hospitals to promote their remarkable results in education, research, healthcare, and treatment for both military and civilian patients and continue to be reliable medical stations. He added that the academy should make thorough preparations for developing a military organ transplant center to bring more hope for the patients.
