Defense leader checks construction of Phan Thiet Airport
PANO - A delegation led by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and Deputy Defense Minister, visited the construction site of Phan Thiet Airport in Thien Nghiep commune, Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province on March 14.
Phan Thiet Airport is a national key project designed to be a civil and military airport with international flight operations.

The airport's passenger terminal is designed to have a capacity of 2 million passengers per year, and the investors reported that they have completed over 50 percent of the project volume.
The investors committed to completing the runway items in May, the taxiways in July, and the apron in September of this year.

Once completed, Phan Thiet Airport is expected to drive socio-economic development in the entire South central coast region and strongly contribute to the development of Binh Thuan province and the region.
Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong emphasized the airport's importance in terms of national defense and security and requested units and localities to continue closely coordinating and speeding up the construction progress related to the common area to put the airport into operation according to the committed schedule.
The chief of General Staff also requested contractors to increase human resources and equipment and mobilize financial assistance to complete the project while ensuring safety and environmental protection.
During the visit, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong and Binh Thuan province's leaders inspected the progress of the construction project.
