Established in 1974, the Military Institute of Mechanical Engineering is tasked with studying and applying science and technology to designing, upgrading and modernizing military vehicles and manufacturing specialized materials. Over the past time, as a leading research agency on military vehicles, the institute has actively applied new ideas in science and technology to ensure well-functioning vehicles and technical equipment for units in the whole military. In the first seven months of 2021 alone, the unit conducted 21 projects at all levels.
Reportedly, apart from shifting the usability of vehicles for the engineering force participating in U.N. peacekeeping operations, the Military Institute of Mechanical Engineering has cooperated with other units to convert military vehicles for COVID-19 prevention and control missions.
