Border guard units should actively follow and precisely forecast situational developments in border areas and other key localities to make recommendations to the Central Military Commission and teh Defense Ministry on approaches to dealing with issues in a timely manner, contributing to firmly safeguarding national independence and sovereignty.

The request was made by Defense Minister, General Ngo Xuan Lich at the meeting between the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission and the Standing Board of the Vietnam Border Guard Command’s Party Committee on July 31 to review the command’s leadership overr the implementation of political and Party building work since 2015.

He added that the Party Committee of the Vietnam Border Guard Command should promote its leadership for the building of a revolutionary, regular, elite and increasingly modernized force with all officers and the ranks qualified for firm political stance, professional competence and high determination to fulfill all assigned missions. General Lich also requested the Border Guard leadership to direct and instruct its subordinates to well perform logistic, technical and financial work for all border guard units, especially those stationed in remote and mountainous localities and on islands.

According to Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Chief of the Vietnam Border Guard Command, border guard units have fulfilled targets set in the resolution of the force’s Party Congress for the 2015-2020 period. Under the leadership of the force’s Party committees and chains-of-command at all levels, border guard units have effectively dealt with circumstances, contributing to ensuring political security and public order in border areas, firmly safeguarded border and coastal areas, actively prevented crimes, effectively conducted defense and border external affairs, built local political bases and helped local people eliminate hunger and reduce poverty.

Praising the force for its efforts and achievements over the past four years, General Lich urged the Vietnam Border Guard’s Party Committee and Chain-of-Command to focus their leadership over the building of politically- and ideologically-strong Party organizations and implementation of resolutions on Party building and Politburo’s directive on enhancing the movement “Studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morals and lifestyle.”
