At the Vietnam Peacekeeping Center (VPC), Senior Colonel Hoang Kim Phung, VPC Director, debriefed the general about the center’s recent missions and reported him on its upcoming assigned tasks.

Since its establishment in May 2014, the center has sent 12 officers to participate in the UN peacekeeping operations in South Sudan and the Central African Republic. The Vietnamese officers have been performing well the missions, strictly observed the UN regulations and their efforts have been highly appreciated by foreign peers.

In 2016, VPC focused on strengthening capacity in terms of military, expertise, and foreign languages for its forces, especially the replacement officers at the two UN missions in South Sudan and the Central African Republic and a level-2 field hospital.

So far, the Vietnam Peacekeeping Center has basically finalized Phase 1 of the construction plan of its office in Thach Hoa commune, Thach That district, Hanoi and the construction of the center is expected to be completed this year.

Moreover, VPC has been actively preparing for dispatching a level-2 field hospital and an engineering company to the UN missions.

Acknowledging the outstanding achievements gained by the center over the last two years, Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang highlighted the center’s important contributions to heightening the Vietnam People’s Army’s status in the international arena. He tasked the center to soon finalize its organization and equipment to meet the requirement of its assigned tasks.

The general also noted that infrastructure construction of the center should soon be completed and the infrastructure capacity should be fully exploited when it is put into operation.

Especially, the general ordered the officers, who are deployed at the UN missions, to have a high sense of responsibility, overcome difficulties, and seriously obey regulations of the Vietnam People’s Army and laws of the countries they are working, contributing to raising Vietnam’s prestige.

Earlier on the same day, Lieutenant Phan Van Giang was briefed on the task performance of the Vietnam National Mine Action Center (VNMAC) at the center’s Headquarters. The general stressed that VNMAC should increase international cooperation and mobilize more international donation and investment to improve mine action capacity in Vietnam. He also urged the center to well coordinate with relevant agencies and units to implement projects, demining tasks, and victim assistance.

During his working visit on February 21, Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang also visited and directly inspected infrastructure, education, and training at the Political Officers School.
