Reportedly, at 16:30 on September 1, while checking local areas, Major Truong Hong Ky spotted two people swept away by floodwater at Dong Be beach in Vinh Hoa village, Xuan Thinh commune, Song Cau town.

He promptly jumped into the water and brought the first person named Tran Phan Minh Thien, born in 2008 to shore. Thien is from Le Uyen Dong street, Xuan Yen ward, Song Cau district.

Major Ky continued to swim to save the second one, Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, born in 1983, a Sacombank driver residing in Long Hai Bac street area, Xuan Yen ward, Song Cau town.

However, the strong waves swept the officer away. Too exhausted, Major Ky failed to swim ashore. Local people on the shore spotted Ky and tried to bring him to the shore and gave him first aid.
