Border force reviews disaster response and rescue work
PANO - The Border Guard Command held a teleconference on Feb. 28 to review its natural disaster response and rescue work in 2017 and deploy 2018 missions under the supervision of its Deputy-Commander and Chief-of-Staff, Major General Nguyen Van Nam.
Also attending the event were Major General Truong Duc Nghia, Head of the Search and Rescue Department under the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, representatives of relevant units, as well as leaders from 44 provinces and cities nationwide.
Reports delivered at the meeting highlighted that the management board for natural disaster prevention and rescue work under the Border Guard Command has regularly directed and instructed affiliated units to strictly implement directives from higher levels, contributing to minimizing losses, whether in lives or property. In addition, they actively collaborated and exchanged information with relevant agencies to improve their task performance.
In summation, units of the Border Guard Command mobilized 14,708 troops and 532 different vehicles together with hundreds of local people and vehicles to help mitigate the effects of natural disasters.
In 2018, the Border Guard Command planned to continue observing instructions from higher levels, fully grasping all resolutions on natural disaster prevention and rescue work, and collaborating with relevant agencies to raise troops’ and peoples’ awareness in carrying out the work.
Addressing the event, General Nghia hailed the Border Guards Command for their achievements over the past time, and urged them to focus on improving troops’ awareness, training quality and collaboration among forces as well as promptly commending outstanding individuals and groups in the performance of their missions.
