During the week-long course, experts from the French military will introduce 30 Vietnamese trainees to the general view of combat first aid in U.N. peacekeeping operations environment, including basic principles on combat first aid, evacuation of wounded people from dangerous areas, treatment of fatal wounds, handling of airway problems, monitoring of respiratory problems, and coordination in combat first aid performance.

The trainees will be equipped with combat first aid skills in three situations: First aid on the fire line; tactical first aid on the battlefield; and emergency care in tactical evacuation.

At the end of the course, trainees will practice comprehensively according to a scenario.

Sergeant Aristide Vermesch, a French instructor, said that the course will help the trainees in their future task performance. The acquired knowledge and skills will help them promptly respond to emergency situations, avoid risks and save people when needed.

According to VNDPKO Deputy Director Senior Colonel Nguyen Nhu Canh, this is the first combat first aid course and the second course on specialized skills for U.N. peacekeeping force jointly held by Vietnam and France this year.
