The activity aims to reaffirm Vietnam’s activeness and pro-activeness as a responsible member in the ASEAN Community and in ASEAN military-defense cooperation, in the spirit of providing the highest level of support for the Lao People's Democratic Republic - ASEAN Chairman in 2024.

Meanwhile, it also contributes to promoting military-defense cooperation among ASEAN countries in a substantial manner, sharing views on world and regional issues, and seeking ASEAN's support for activities chaired by Vietnam in 2024.

As scheduled, apart from ACDFM-21, Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong will have bilateral meetings with heads of delegations from several ASEAN countries and attend the official banquet.

* Earlier, the 21st ASEAN Military Intelligence Meeting (AMIM-21) also took place in Vientiane, Laos, on September 3 with the attendance of representatives from 10 ASEAN countries and Timor-Lester as an observer.

At the meeting, delegates held that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is one of the organizations in one of the important and strategic regions in terms of geopolitics, military and socio-economy. Currently, the regional and world situations continue to pose old and new security threats and challenges, directly and indirectly affecting peace, stability and development of the region. Therefore, ASEAN needs to continue to cooperate to address those challenges.

Themed “ASEAN: Together for Peace, Security and Resilience,” the meeting provided a platform for ASEAN military intelligence officials to exchange views on enhancing cooperation in the intelligence sector, contributing to regional defense collaboration, and safeguarding peace, stability, and resilience in the region, in line with the common views and spirit of the ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces Meeting, the ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting and related meetings held this year.

In addition, AMIM-21 also focused on discussing and exchanging views on the outstanding situation in the region, cooperation among ASEAN member countries in military-defense affairs, especially in the intelligence sector, emphasizing the importance of specialized cooperation mechanisms, such as the the ASEAN Junior Intelligence Interaction Program (AJIIP), ASEAN Our Eyes (AOE), and ASEAN Military Intelligence Community (AMIC).

The delegates agreed to continue to enhance capacity, mutual trust in response to security challenges, contributing to maintaining peace, stability and socio-economic development in the region.

The same day, the 14th ASEAN Military Operations Meeting (AMOM-14) was also held in Vientiane.
