The event was part of the field inspection program to assess the efficiency and quality of the U.N.’s supplies to the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).

At Highway Base, where the Engineering Company of Vietnam is stationed, the mission lauded the unit for its efforts in conducting the Smart Camp building project.

At the event, Mrs. AnneMarie Van Den Berg highly appreciated the outcomes obtained from the mission in general and the Vietnamese engineering company in particular. She hoped that together with UNISFA, the Vietnamese engineers would promote their competence and well fulfill assigned missions.

Regarding Smart Camp building project, Mrs. AnneMarie Van Den Berg acknowledged the Vietnamese engineers’ efforts in ensuring the progress of the project at Highway Base and suggested the Vietnamese unit continue to cooperate with the mission’s agencies to acquire more experience.

The Vietnamese engineering company is the first unit to be entrusted with the mission of conducting the smart camp building project, an initiative of the U.N. to enhance the protection, capability to maintain operation, and effective support to peacekeepers on fields.

On the occasion, a UNISFA mission, led by UNISFA Chief of Mission Support Robert Kirkwood, worked with the Vietnamese engineering company’s chain-of-command. He recalled that during his meeting with U.N. leaders, they highly appreciated activities at UNISFA, notably those of the Vietnamese engineering company. U.N. leaders agreed that Vietnamese peacekeeping forces, including the Engineering Company in Abyei and Level-2 Field Hospital in South Sudan Mission, have comprehensively met the U.N.’s requirements.

“UNISFA is lucky to have the Vietnamese Engineering Company,” said Mr. Robert Kirkwood. He also took the occasion to thank Vietnam for deploying forces to U.N. peacekeeping operations.
