This was a key project to celebrate the 75th founding anniversary of the Lao People’s Army (January 20, 1949 - 2024) and the 103rd birthday anniversary of President Kaysone Phomvihane (December 13, 1920 - 2023).

Addressing the event, General Chansamone Chanyalath said that the upgrading focused on the museum’ structural system and exhibition areas. The project has turned the museum into a center to store, preserve, and manage historical artifacts, and keep records of victories of the Lao People's Army under the leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. It has also helped the museum become a destination for domestic and international tourists keen on researching and learning about the history of the Lao People's Army through exhibits marking and recapturing important historical events.

Covering an area of some 17,000 sq.m in the center of Vientiane, the Lao People’s Army History Museum was designed to harmoniously blend European and Asian architecture. It started operating in 1976 and has been upgraded and repaired several times.
