Vietnamese and Thai navies promote in-depth cooperation
PANO - Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien received Admiral Jirapol Wongwit, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, on July 15 at the Headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense (MND).
Welcoming the Thai delegation to Vietnam, the Vietnamese defense leader described the visit as a practical activity to implement the outcomes of the recent official visit to Vietnam by the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces earlier this July.

General Hien emphasized that the Vietnam–Thailand defense cooperation has seen positive and trustworthy development in recent years, notably in exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones; effective maintenance of the Defense Policy Dialogue and young officers exchange mechanisms; cooperation between arms and services and in training; and close coordination and mutual support at ASEAN-led multilateral forums and mechanisms. He highly appreciated the fruitful and substantive cooperation between the two navies in recent times.

Regarding orientation for future cooperation, the Vietnamese deputy defense minister suggested the two navies continue their close coordination to effectively implement the shared understandings reached by the defense leaders during the afore-mentioned official visit to Vietnam of the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces and the sixth Vietnam–Thailand Defense Policy Dialogue held in March, 2025. He said that the two sides should promote activities to enhance mutual understanding and trust, with a focus on bilateral naval consultations, delegation exchanges at all levels, and cooperation in training.

General Hien affirmed that the Vietnamese MND facilitates the in-depth cooperation between the two navies and hopes that both sides will further enhance their effective collaboration, contributing not only to building and strengthening each country’s national defense but also to fostering the practical development of the Vietnam–Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Updating the host on the outcomes of recent cooperation between the two navies, Admiral Jirapol Wongwit stressed that this visit reflects the solidarity between the Thai and Vietnamese navies. He highlighted that the two sides have recently achieved numerous positive results, particularly in joint patrols and delegation exchanges.

The Thai naval official expressed his hope that General Hien will continue to provide support and guidance to further strengthen the solidarity and cooperation between the two navies.
