Vietnamese and Lao military units hold talks on military and defense cooperation

Senior Colonel Trinh Thanh Binh, Commanding Officer of the Quang Binh provincial Border Guard Command, Senior Colonel Bui Hong Thanh, Commanding officer of the Ha Tinh provincial Border Guard Command and Colonel Bounlerd Boupphavan, Commanding Officer of the Khammouane provincial Military Command, co-chaired the talks.

At the talks, delegates from each side shared about their respective general situation and outcomes of collaboration in defense and security tasks; combating different kinds of crime; ensuring political security, social order and safety; and managing and safeguarding the territorial sovereignty and border security along the Vietnam - Laos borderline.

Particularly, the Quang Binh provincial Border Guard Command proposed that the Quang Binh provincial Party Committee and People's Committee support Khammouane provincial authorities and people with VND 1 billion to overcome natural disaster consequences. The two provincial border guard commands conducted one bilateral patrol session, while the border guard stations and border guard companies of the two provinces implemented 35 bilateral patrol sessions. They also fostered people-to-people diplomacy activities and organized the twinning program between Dan Hoa commune of Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh province (Vietnam) and the Langkhang village cluster of Bualapha district, Khammuane province (Laos).

In the time to come, they agreed to continue to effectively implement the agreements on border cooperation and legal documents regarding the land border of Vietnam and Laos, while promoting information dissemination to raise border people’s awareness of law observance. They will also enhance exchanging information related to criminal activities; conduct search and rescue operations, natural disaster response, disease prevention and control, and environmental pollution settlement in border areas; and enhance twinning activities among units and localities to strengthen friendship, cooperation and development.
