At the talks, the two sides highly appreciated the outcomes of the cooperative relations between the two countries’ ground forces, which have contributed to promoting the Vietnam-Japan defense cooperation in an intensive, practical and effective manner.
Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia affirmed that the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army is ready to collaborate with the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force to effectively carry out cooperation activities, including support to raise the capacity of conducting U.N. peacekeeping operations, search and rescue and military medicine activities.
For his part, General Yoshida Yoshihide strongly believed that with great care and support of defense leaders of the two countries and the activeness and pro-activeness of relevant agencies and units, the bilateral defense cooperation in general and cooperation between ground forces in particular will continue developing in line with the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership in the new period.
The Japanese official hoped that in the coming time the two sides will effectively maintain available cooperation fields and seek new cooperation contents of mutual concern.
During the talks, the two sides also exchanged views on regional and international situation of mutual concern. The Vietnamese deputy chief of the General Staff emphasized that Vietnam consistently pursues the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, multilateralization and diversification of relations.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia said that Vietnam’s consistent viewpoint is to deal with disputes and differences, including the East Sea (internationally South China Sea) issues by peaceful measures, on the basis of international law, including the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982. He added that Vietnam welcomes initiatives and constructive ideas to contribute to peace, stability and cooperation.
