PANO - Senior Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army received the visiting delegation from the National Defense University of the United States, led by US Air Force General William M.F, on August 1 at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.

At the reception, the Vietnamese General stressed that his country highly values the US's role in the region and hopes to boost cooperation with the US on the basic principles of respecting the United Nations' charter and international law as well as the political system, national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of each country. For the defense ties, the two countries have actively implemented the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Promoting Bilateral Defense Cooperation, and the US-Vietnam Joint Vision Statement on Defense Relations relating to delegation exchange, dialogue consultancy, maritime security, search and rescue mission and UN peacekeeping operations.
For his part, the American General thanked the host for the warm reception and expressed his delight at recent developments in the bilateral relationship, including defense ties. He stressed that the two armed forces need to continue promoting cooperation in the time to come, focusing on natural disaster control and humanitarian aid.
