The meeting was held to inform the organizations of military-defense events from now until the end of this year as Vietnam performs its duties as the ASEAN Chair.

According to General Thang, amid the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic, since the beginning of the year, as the Chair of the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) and the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus (ADMM+) for 2020, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense (VMND) has tried its best to maintain the ASEAN defense cooperation mechanisms with the theme “Military cooperation for a cohesive and responsive ASEAN”. The VMND thanked and highly valued the support and sound cooperation of ASEAN member countries as well as partner countries, saying that the countries’ Defense Attachés in Vietnam contributed to the success of recent military-defense cooperation.

He also affirmed that the VMND is determined to organize the remaining military-defense events in 2020. Therefore, Vietnam, together with other countries, will hold major conferences, such as the 14th ADMM, seventh ADMM+, and 10th founding anniversary of ADMM+, which are scheduled to take place from December 9 to 11, among others.

The general also held that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam will take measures to organize and hold the two most important meetings, the ADMM and the ADMM+.

Several other conferences will be postponed until 2021, such as a workshop themed "Women with UN peacekeeping operations" and the 2020 International Defense Expo.

General Thang also called on wholehearted support from ASEAN members and partner countries for Vietnam to organize the upcoming events.
