Vietnam steps up preparations for level-two field hospital deployment
PANO - On Nov. 29, the Vietnam Ministry of National Defense’s Steering Committee on the country’s participation in the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations held a conference to review preparations for the deployment of the first level-two field hospital to the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy-Defense-Minister and head of the steering committee, chaired the conference, with other deputy-heads of the steering committee, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy-Chief-of-the-General Staff, and Major General Le Hien Van, Deputy-Director of the General Department of Politics, in attendance.
Of note is the fact that all relevant units and agencies undertook preparations on training, personnel, and operations for the first level-two field hospital. As scheduled, a UN mission will visit and inspect the Vietnam’s overall preparation for the field hospital at the end of January 2018, and the hospital will likely be officially deployed to South Sudan by April 2018.
Addressing the conference, General Vinh applauded all involved units for their efforts over the past time, asking that they should continue gearing up for the prompt deployment of the hospital as planned. In addition, he said that their requests for personnel and equipment for the hospital have been approved by the defense minister and will soon be delivered.
