Vietnam, Russia promote defense cooperation
PANO - Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, member of the Party Central Committee, permanent member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and Deputy Defense Minister, on February 18 received Senior Lieutenant General V.B. Zarudnitsky, Rector of the Military Academy of the Russian Federation Armed Forces’ General Staff, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense in Hanoi.
At the reception, Gen. Giang stressed that over the past years, along with the strong development of the Vietnam - Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, the defense cooperation between the two countries has constantly improved in a number of areas, including exchange of strategic viewpoints, promotion of cooperation at multilateral forums, and scientific research and military medicine.

He also thanked the Russian Defense Ministry for earmark more than 100 scholarships for the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense in 2018. Cooperation in training military students is a highlight of the defense relations between the two countries, he added.
Highly appreciating the results of the talks between the Military Academy of the Russian Federation Armed Forces’ General Staff and Vietnam’s National Defense Academy, Gen. Giang recommended the two militaries to further expand collaboration in other fields.
For his part, Senior Lieutenant General V. B. Zarudnitsky thanked the host for the warm reception and affirmed that the Military Academy of the Russian Federation Armed Forces’ General Staff would continue to closely cooperate with Vietnam’s National Defense Academy, thus contributing to expanding the Vietnam - Russia comprehensive strategic partnership in the coming time.
