Vietnam, Japan expand defense cooperation
PANO – Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, member of the Party Central Committee, permanent member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and Deputy Defense Minister, received General Yoshinari Marumo, Chief of Staff of the Japan Air Self Defense Force, in Hanoi on January 7.
At the reception, General Giang said that General Marumo’s visit to Vietnam would contribute to the friendship, cooperation and mutual trust between the two defense ministries in general and the two air forces in particular.
The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense highly appreciated the Japanese Defense Ministry’s project for capacity enhancement for the Vietnamese Air Defense - Air Force Service, he added.

Furthermore, the host valued the outcomes of the previous talks between General Marumo and the Commander of the Vietnam Air Defense - Air Force Service, while affirming that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense always supports and is ready to provide favorable conditions for the two countries’ air forces to realize their agreed contents.
For his part, General Marumo thanked General Giang for the warm reception and underlined that Japan and Vietnam have a traditional relationship and share a number of cultural similarities. Over the past years, the Japan-Vietnam relations have been expanded, including defense cooperation, serving as an important pillar in the bilateral ties.
The Japanese general believed that his visit to Vietnam this time would open more cooperation opportunities for their air forces and militaries in the coming time.
