Sr. Lt. Gen. Phan Van Giang (R) holds talks with Sr. Lt. Gen. Suvon Luongbunmi

The talks took place at a time when the two countries had concluded a wide range of activities in celebration of the 40 years of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18, 1977-2017) and the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic ties (September 5, 1962-2017). Besides, the bilateral defense ties between Vietnam and Laos have developed in depth. Most recently, in January, General Ngo Xuan Lich, the Vietnamese Defense Minister paid an official visit to Laos.

During the talks, the two sides discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern and emphasized the importance of enhancing the special solidarity and friendship of the two neighboring countries.

They underlined the coordination between the two militaries in preventing hostile forces’ sabotage plots with the aim of splitting the special solidarity between the two countries and in national building and defense. They agreed that bilateral military cooperation has effectively contributed to tightening the time-honored friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and the two peoples.
