In his opening speech, Vice-Senior General Soe Win expressed the honor to be the host of ACAMM-22 and welcomed all delegates to the online meeting. He said that the 22nd meeting, themed “The Role of ASEAN Armies in Post-pandemic Recovery,” is significant as it took place in the context that the region has been exerting efforts to respond to the pandemic over the past two years.
According to the Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar's Army, the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all aspects of life, ranging from politics to socio-economy, and the whole world, including ASEAN member states, has been taking measures to respond to those impacts.
Vice-Senior General Soe Win expected that delegations of Armies of ASEAN member nations to ACAMM-22 would share their experiences in responding to the pandemic as well as in recovering their country in post-pandemic period.
Speaking at the event, head of the Vietnamese delegation affirmed the important role of ASEAN military and defense cooperation in responding to challenges. He emphasized the role of ASEAN Armies in responding the COVID-19 pandemic, considering them the key forces in pandemic prevention and control.

The Vietnamese Deputy Chief of the General Staff also shared Vietnam’s experiences in pandemic prevention and control and emphasized the country’s guidelines on adapting to the new situation in the coming time. In particular, Vietnam has been consistent in conducting the dual tasks of preventing the pandemic and fostering socio-economic development in line with the viewpoints of leaders at the 38th and 39th ASEAN Summits.
General Nghia expressed belief that ASEAN military and defense cooperation will help the association contain the pandemic and effectively respond to non-traditional challenges, contributing to maintaining peace, stability and development in the region.
The Vietnamese delegation’s participation in ACAMM-22 aims to continue affirming Vietnam's role as an active, proactive and responsible member in ASEAN’s military and defense cooperation activities.
