Vietnam, EU enjoy active relations development
PANO - Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and Deputy Defense Minister, welcomed Mr. Gabor Iklody, Director of the EU Crisis Management and Planning Directorate, in Hanoi on December 10.
At the reception, Mr. Iklody underlined that the EU and Vietnam have witnessed positive developments in their relations, including security and defense cooperation. He added that the EU and Vietnam could expand cooperation on both bilateral and multilateral bases and within the EU-ASEAN ties, especially when Vietnam assumes the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020.

In addition, the EU is willing to expand cooperation with the Vietnamese side in UN peacekeeping operations, particular in training and technical support, with Vietnam, he concluded.
Meanwhile, General Giang hoped that the EU would further provide assistance in UN peacekeeping operations for the Vietnam People’s Army and support Vietnam's bid to run for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term, while urging the two sides to promptly map out detailed measures to boost the bilateral defense cooperation.
