Vietnam, China conclude joint patrol in Gulf of Tonkin
PANO - Four Vietnamese and Chinese ships concluded the first joint patrol between the Vietnamese and Chinese coast guard forces in 2022 in the waters adjacent to the demarcation line in the Gulf of Tonkin on April 21.

The Vietnamese ships, including CSB 8003 and CSB 8004, were led by Coast Guard Region 1 Commander Senior Colonel Tran Van Tho, while the Chinese ships numbered 4303 and 4202, were headed by Senior Colonel Huangmin, Director of the Executive Division under the Forth Department of the Chinese Coast Guard.

During the three-day patrol, starting April 19, the ships patrolled 13 locations along the demarcation line in the Gulf of Tonkin. They also practiced exchanging of welcoming notes, checking and supervision of trawlers operating in the waters adjacent to the demarcation line, dissemination of regulations and law to fishermen, and conduct a search and rescue exercise.

In addition, during the phone talks with the Chinese side, Colonel Tho emphasized that the two sides closely coordinated and completed all set plans. He highlighted the search and rescue exercise, considering it a good foundation for the two sides to boost coordination capacity in the time ahead.
The joint patrol contributed to enhancing the fine relations between the two parties, states, and maintaining an environment of peace, security, order, sand safety at sea.
