At the talks, General Vong Pisen, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, expressed deep thanks to the Party, State, people and armed forces of Vietnam for helping Cambodia overthrow the Khmer Rough genocidal regime, train its personnel at various levels, and enhance combat strength of the Cambodian armed forces.

He stressed that recent years have witnessed development in cooperation between the two militaries. The achievements in cooperation have reaffirmed the important role of defense cooperation in Vietnam-Cambodia bilateral ties. The host vowed to support Vietnam and believed that the country will succeed when it takes the Chair of ASEAN in 2020 and holds the ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces’ Meeting.

For his part, General Giang thanked the host for the warm reception and congratulated the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces on the 66th founding anniversary (November 9, 1953 – 2019). He reiterated that Vietnam and Cambodia are good neighbors with a fine traditional friendship, comprehensive and sustainable cooperative relationship. In the coming time, the guest hoped, the two sides would work more effectively in border demarcation and the Cambodian side would further assist Vietnamese Cambodians in their work and life. More attention should also be paid to protecting and strengthening relic sites dedicated to the bilateral relations.

General Vong Pisen proposed that the two sides continue their cooperation in a number of important fields and the Vietnamese general affirmed that the information would be submitted to the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and Government for consideration and implementation.

* In the afternoon of the same day, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang paid a courtesy call on General Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Cambodia.

At the meeting, General Tea Banh hoped Giang's official visit to Cambodia would help deepen defense cooperation between the two sides and serve as a springboard for more effective implementation of agreements. General Giang hoped that General Tea Banh would continue facilitating the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces High Command in carrying out their cooperation contents.

Earlier, the Vietnamese general laid wreath at the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument in tribute to fallen soldiers, visited Brigade 70, and met with the personnel of the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia.
